Critical text
Austrian filmmaker Ludwig Wüst (winner of Filmadrid’s Official Selection in 2022 with I AM HERE!) presents in #LOVE a focused cinematic experience centred on the idea of love, a multifaceted concept where tenderness and violence share the same origin. The film unfolds through a series of scenes that resemble self-contained chapters, yet a subtle thread connects them all, revealing that experiences of love are as personal and infinite as they are collective and inseparable. Situated between narrative fiction and experimental imagery, the film draws on all available tools to delve into the complexities of romantic conflict, a realm of shifting emotions and a multitude of characters with many faces. In his ongoing search for new cinematic forms, Ludwig Wüst blends formats, narratives, and contexts, reaffirming himself as one of the most original filmmakers working today, capable of portraying the obvious with delicacy, and the unspeakable with raw intensity. Testimonies of desire, pleasure and pain, affection, ruin, tenderness, and loneliness (emotions traditionally associated with love) are intertwined with technology and contemporary sensibilities, confronting us directly with who we are, or cease to be, when we open ourselves emotionally to others.
