Critical text
Through a window we can see the generous vegetation of the French countryside and as if we were jumping towards it, the whole landscape floods the screen and we hear Welcome to my world by Jim Reeves. Based on a reflection on the text of the same name by Philippe Jaccottet, Nathan Clément's first short film is an unusual portrait of his family during the spring of their first confinement in Provence.
However, La promenade sous les arbres is not a film about the pandemic but an exercise in empathy, belonging and imagination that brings together five people who spend their time in extravagant activities, which they carry out with the naturalness of everyday life. Nathan Clément shows the challenge of individuality and the beauty of the connection between human groups, while linking them to the cycles of nature and its manifestations through the weather. A simple and poetic film that advances the fantasy universe into which the author delves in his next short film Max and the Freaks. NURIA CUBAS
