Critical text
In his latest film, the Galician filmmaker Alberto Gracia presents a timeless space in which the future seems to have been inverted, walking backwards. With a sinuous and burst Hi8, we witness all the eras of the image at the same time.
In Be Careful Out There, the characters allow themselves to destroy as only a corpse can destroy. With that absolute liberation of knowing they are already dead, enjoying the powerful aesthetic pleasure of destruction. Feeling attracted to what is falling apart and releasing smoke and noise, the same thing that minutes before was glowing like a starry night. The irrational force of a car with a brainless man at the wheel, between folklore, mysticism and barbarism.
And the estrangement of the romantic poem singing its exaltation of the human soul and nature over this new natural landscape that is a junkyard full of scrap metal. From a bunker built in the middle of the 20th century, the last redoubt of protection and attack, to look at a threatening outside and end up alone in the desert. All of this (and a few other things) is in the film Beware Out There, undoubtedly the most stylised, energetic and beautiful film by its author.
