Critical text
During a sizzling summer that could belong to any period, a group of young people set out to spend their time in the river, scene of matchless primitive echoes. By means of a complete polishing of his stylistic featu- res, the Portuguese David Pinheiro Vicente focuses his debut on bodies’ sensuality and their layout at the river landscape, by using the 4:3 to supply every framing with a dreamy pictorial personality. This way, this pleasant story divided in four chapters, first film of a team mostly compound by students, places Pinheiro in the trail of the emerging Damien Manivel (Le parc) or Alessandro Comodin (L’estate di Giacomo). As their respective starting works, Onde o verão vai blends the impassioned present of youthful instincts with a mythical and timeless scope, pulling out, this way, an evocative beauty from the impact that nature plays over excited bodies.
