Critical text
This comedy, the first feature film by directors Michael and Thomas Matthews, about the refusal to assume adulthood, starts from a commonplace in American films, the return home of its main character, Margaret, to spend the Christmas holidays. Beyond this first premise, nothing will ever hit commonplace in the film again. Margaret’s wacky character perfectly matches the recklessness of her friend Henry. After a party with high school friends in which Margaret discovers that her ex-boyfriend will soon be a father, the two colleagues embark on a drug, alcohol and hangover spree. This drives them to become an exotic detective couple at their own risk. Lost Holiday is a dark and hilarious road movie, of reckless freedom, in which the characters rush to the void of the night streets, in the suburbs of Washington DC. NURIA CUBAS
