Critical text
Belgian filmmaker Alexe Poukine interviews her relatives to investigate the life of her uncle, who died destitute. This traumatic event allows Poukine to delve into the world of forgotten people who survive on the streets of cities. In the style of an investigative documentary and with a strong empathy, the director follows Joe and Bart, two people who openly share their experiences and their way of life with the camera, even if this openness is also associated with a strong sense of confusion. Dormir, dormir dans les pierres takes its title from a poem by the French surrealist writer Benjamin Péret, and is the debut feature of a fascinating filmmaker who is building her career with increasingly consistent and suggestive films.
