Critical text
This is the story of a man ahead of his time. One of many who would be lost to history if it were not for films like this one. At the dawn of the First World War, businessman Delmiro Gouveia’s progressive ideas to industrialise the country in the most sustainable and ecological way possible went against the geopolitical interests of the military dictatorship of the First Brazilian Republic.
With his first fiction feature film, Geraldo Sarno became another visionary who, like Gouveia, seems to be interested in improving society with his works. He participated in Un Certain Regard at Cannes and received the Grand Coral for best film at the First Havana International Film Festival in 1979.
