Critical text
Latvian filmmaker Laila Pakalnina ventures into the realm of family portraiture with Homes, creating a constellation of human groups within the spaces they inhabit and that belong to them. Yet beyond the homes and the subtle nuances of human relationships that appear on screen, the film gradually takes shape as a reflection on the image itself, the framing and light, and on the creative intimacy that emerges between the photographer and their subject, thanks to the duration of the shots. If Cat on My Mind is a reenactment of the photographic act, we could say that Homes is the making-of of photography—in this case, of photography in motion, which we call cinema. NURIA CUBAS
