SYNOPSIS

Life of Genji is a layered performative projection. Part of the super-8 projection of Twelve Seasonal Films by Jorge Suárez-Quiñones, a film that goes around the solar year in 12 + 1 reels. The screening is interspersed with a live reading of fragments from the novel Genji Monogatari by Murasaki Shikibu, a work always present in the filming process, and live improvisation by Yoshie Sakai, a koto player and expert in traditional Japanese music.

Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas

JORGE SUÁREZ-QUIÑONES RIVAS (León, 1992). Filmmaker and visual artist.
His work has been programmed in different spaces and contexts linked to film and art, including Tokyo Image Forum, CA2M, IFFR Rotterdam, Punto de Vista, FICUNAM, Fracto Experimental Film Encounter Berlin, Documenta Madrid, MUBI's Notebook, MUSAC, Filmadrid, Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2018, SixtyEight Art Institute Copenhagen, Salón Madrid and Rencontres Internationales Paris-Berlin.
Teacher and project tutor at LAV (Laboratorio Audiovisual de Creación y Práctica Contemporánea, Madrid).
Through his artistic practice in the medium of film, he experiments with the formal and conceptual implications of in-camera montage in its relationship to the present as a spatio-temporal category.
He is currently one of the artists in residence at the WIELS contemporary art centre in Brussels.
