The New American Cinema Group is quite a formidable company, made even more remarkable when we remember (or find out) that several other quite important (if not necessarily liked) auteur figures were connected to it thanks to some of the producers (who’re probably the least well-remembered figures in constellation…), eg.: Storm De Hirsch whose lone fiction feature, the ‘64 Goodbye in the Mirror, remains a little-heralded triumph of feminist filmmaking, and New Hollywood-late bloomer Philip Kaufman (Goldstein, 1964, in tandem with Benjamin Manaster).
