Critical text
As in a story of initiation, Max walks through the dark streets of a city encountering strange characters that provoke and guide him. The night blurs the figures and objects, it is disjointed, it shines. Everything appears without order or concert, a lone woman plays the drums in some basement-like place, two goblins run across an overpass doing a magnificent homage to Shu Qi in Millennium Mambo and a man with a huge red flower recalls a great love. Max and the freaks is a fascinating film that puzzles and accompanies, like the characters Max encounters, full of grain, speed changes, cuts and filters over the image. A fantasy like a dream in which Max and perhaps also the viewer, have to find themselves. Where do they go? What do they do? Who are these people? Rooms that are entered from above, small children reading huge novels, anything can happen tonight. Max has received a letter that also holds a great mystery: Stop hiding. NURIA CUBAS
