LA TIERRA LOS ALTARES

Among the absolute darkness, a focus of light reveals a shape that unearths something with its hands. Between fragments of landscape a voice-off disrupts to indicate that we are not before the apparent quietness that the images transmit. “I remember only seeing moments of the ground and my own hair”, is what this voice-off says first, through which Sofia Peypoch introduces the place where she was a victim of kidnapping. la tierra los altares suggests an investigation, both physical and psychological, of the past, starting out from the most intimate sphere to lead a dialog of the story of the violence that has marked a whole country. The gesture of returning to the place of a so personal trauma reveals an approach to the violence from the subtle, which moves away from the common places of the cinema of social denunciation and turns its gaze to something less explicit. The experimental language is precisely the key to puzzle out Peypoch’s proposition: images that travel the oneiric to grant a portrait of the land as the witness of the violence and of the body as the holder of the ancestral knowledge. Land and body. Body and memory. And night, which hides and reveals everything at the same time. la tierra los altares is both a risky and a radical proposition as sensitive, where plasticity dialogs with mystic, and science, (archaeology) becomes the gate to know the individual and collective story(ies).
