SYNOPSIS

Crossing the boundaries between art and music, Gold Film arises as result of the creative dialogue between the visual artist Deneb Martos and the experimental musician Wade Matthews. Gold Film is a performative work that transcends genres and categories to explore the fertile territory of experimentation. Through a carefully constructed mise en scène, Martos’ sculptural installation showcases strands of vertically arranged gold film activated by upward and downward movements to generate black-and-white images through the projectors’ light. Navigating between phantasmagoria and alchemy, this expanded cinema scenario dialogues by with Matthews’ sounds and the rhythmic cadences of the projector accompanying gold’s splendor. DIANA ANGOSO.

BIOGRAPHY

Deneb Martos, Wade Matthews

DENEB MARTOS Visual artist. Specialised in camera-less film practices and alternative analogue development processes. Graduate in audiovisual communication from the UCM. Since 2003 she has worked in the analogue photography department of La Casa Encendida in Madrid where she founded Los Laboratorios, a place specialised in working with analogue techniques and processes.

WADE MATTHEWS (USA, 1955). D. from Columbia University (New York) with a thesis on improvisation using electronic sounds; author of "Improvising: La libre creación musical" (2012); coordinator of the music area of Espacio Cruce (Madrid); improvising musician and active member of the international improvisation scene.
